Great wine especially at this price point
Whelehans has done an amazing job of sourcing a mid-sized Champagne producer making phenomenal wine that rivals most of the big name houses. The reserve is particularly good value and I have bought it in three formats; half bottles as an aperitif, bottles for celebrating being alive , and magnums as well-received dinner gifts
I ordered this amazing product in the evening and received it the day after in the morning!! What an amazing service both me and my husband were shocked how fast it arrived! It’s an amazing experience !!
Pol Roger is my favourite of the large champagne houses. I ordered some from Australia to be delivered to my family who i would be staying with. Service was excellent. Thanks Whelan’s Wines, i’ll definitely order with you again
Very strong on the nose, smelling of overripe fruit; you can feel the 14% alcohol. On the palate it is much more balanced, but still a powerful wine, with significant grip, notes of dark fruit, leather, maybe a touch of tobacco, and generally a bit wild. Can tolerate very strong flavours of food. Chargrilled meat? Sure! Salt and vinegar crisps? No problem! Overall, well worth a punt, even for old-world skeptics!
A Juicy and round Malbec with soft tannins and some interesting, slightly vegetal notes adding more freshness and complexity. Enjoyed lightly chilled with a traditional roast chicken and some Provencal style roasted vegetables!
Beautiful Chardonnay champagne. Excellent service from Whelehans. They go the extra mile to satisfy customers .
We really love SA cabs, like Kanonkop, Lanzerac, and Thelema. At €28 this is big let-down. Nothing of note, either on fruit, acid or tannin. Tastes like a wine that costs less than a tenner.
This is a light ish red (12.5%), but with a little bit of tannin, making it feel like a good red for an Irish summer. It comes across as something between a Grenache and maybe a beujolais, but have others refer to this grape as being similar to Italian Nebbiolos. It’s not my favourite kind of red, but it’s eminently drinkable and very well made.
opened it on a sunny summer's evening, with a view to having a tasting glass. I was "assaulted" with a torrent of flavours - who would have thought the humble gamay grape could be so spectacular?! I took a chance on it and have to say, it is a fabulous wine. @27 euros, very good value.
A lovely fruity taste. Kept on drinking over several glasses.
heard Jean Smullen give glowing review on Moncrieff's Movies & Booze segment on Newstalk. She was spot on!
