Doctors John and Brigid Forrest are a small, very much hands-on" producer of premium quality white wine from their home vineyards in Marlborough. Established in 1988 at Renwick - at the heart of the stony Wairau River Valley, these vineyards are now some of the oldest in the region. The Doctors’ range is about innovation and excellence. New grape varieties, alternative winemaking techniques and select parcels of fruit all qualify to create very special wines under this unique label.
Dr John perfected delicious full flavoured wines by slowing the grape plant’s ability to make sugar but not its ability to make flavour. And it’s all done sustainably, in the vineyard. No chemistry tricks or genetic engineering wizardry here. Just sustainably grown, naturally produced lower alcohol wine. Oh, and one more thing: it’s not really a secret. We believe so strongly in the potential of lower alcohol wine, we’ve shared everything we’ve learned about the process with the New Zealand industry. Wine’s about sharing, after all.
A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that leaps from the glass with red capsicum, passionfruit and fresh herbs; it’s full and satisfying to taste with that crisp refreshing tropical Marlborough finish, with just a mere suggestion of sweetness (5g/l residual) on the finish. All this at a modest 9.5% alcohol. What’s not to like about that?!
"Absolutely spot-on Marlborough Savvy-B: gooseberry, nettle, grass, herbs. Nothing to suggest there is anything unconventional from the aromas. Dry with vivid citrus fruit and a light but lengthy palate. Even when you look closely, there doesnt seem to anything missing here, thanks to the huge flavour concentration. But lower alcohol neednt be the reason for choosing these wines because they stand alone for their excellent concentration and purity of flavour, and their admirable varietal and regional typicality."
