    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

The grapes for this Gran Reserva are cultivated in the municipality of Cenicero, where the vineyards’ poor organic soils enhance both the acidity and concentration of the fruit. The region’s predominantly Atlantic climate, with its regular rainfall, further shapes the character of the grapes.

Crafted according to the winery’s traditional winemaking methods, Barón de Ley Gran Reserva benefits from the expertise of an experienced oenological team. True to its Gran Reserva status, the wine undergoes extended ageing: a minimum of two years in French and American oak barrels, followed by at least three additional years in the bottle, resulting in exceptional complexity and balance.

Founded in 1990 and located in Mendavia, Barón de Ley has become a cornerstone of the Rioja denomination. Specialising in reservas and gran reservas, the winery is celebrated for its prestige, consistency, and commitment to excellence.
