We’re excited to announce the start of the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 Award in Wines, hosted by Whelehans Wines. This introductory course is perfect for those who are new to the world of wine and are eager to build a strong foundation in wine knowledge.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is designed for beginners, providing a clear and structured introduction to the key aspects of wine. Students will explore the basics of wine, covering popular grape varieties, essential wine styles, and fundamental wine tasting techniques. Additionally, they will learn about the principles of pairing wine with food, helping them make informed choices to elevate any dining experience.

This course combines engaging classroom instruction with guided tastings, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in identifying wine characteristics and flavours. With a straightforward structure, The WSET Level 1 is typically completed over a couple of sessions and culminates in a final assessment to earn the internationally recognised Level 1 qualification.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines offered by Whelehans Wines is ideal for both aspiring wine enthusiasts and those working in the hospitality or retail sectors who want to expand their wine knowledge. It’s a great starting point for anyone in Dublin or beyond who wishes to deepen their appreciation of wine in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. 

About the course:

• Cost: €275 per person, including 2 tutored classes in house, in person with a certified WSET Educator, course book, wine tastings & exam fees;
• Time: 7-9pm; 
• 10 key wines tasted; 
• When: Wednesdays ; 7th & 14th of May 2025; 
• Location: Whelehans Wines, The Silver Tassie, Bray Rd, Dublin,  D18VK37  

Classes:

• Wednesday May 7th - Session 1: An Introduction to Wine, Session 2: Palate celebration & Wine Styles, & Session 3: How to serve wine.
• Wednesday May 14th - Session 4: Wine Tasting with Food & Wine Matching &  Exam - 45 mins.
