For those in Dublin interested in beginning their journey into the world of wine, the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 Award in Wines offers an excellent starting point.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a great choice for those who want to build a solid foundation in wine knowledge, whether you’re new to the subject or looking to refine your existing understanding. It provides a structured approach to understanding the basics of wine, including the main types and styles, key grape varieties, and essential wine tasting techniques. The course also covers the principles of food and wine pairing, as well as proper wine storage and service.

About the course:

• Cost: €275 per person, including four guided sessions over two days with a Certified WSET Educator, as well as the course book, wine tastings, and exam fees.
• Time: 7-9pm; 
  
• When: 7th & 14th of May 2025 
• Location: Whelehans Wines, The Silver Tassie, Bray Rd, Dublin,  D18VK37  

• Content:

  • Introduction to the main types and styles of wine.
  • Overview of common grape varieties and their characteristics.
  • Fundamentals of wine tasting using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®.
  • Principles of food and wine pairing.
  • Best practices for storing and serving wine.

• Assessment: A closed-book exam consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 45 minutes. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.

• Certification: Upon successful completion, participants receive a WSET Level 1 Certificate and a lapel pin.
