STORY BEHIND THIS WINE:
“Pedregal” means a rocky place in Spanish, and that is certainly a distinguishing feature of the site. This is a small, hillside vineyard on the lower slopes of eastern Oakville that's planted to 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. During 2008 it was agreed to a long-term lease of this vineyard which gives Ramey Wines a complete control even through any change in ownership. That year, the winery began directly farming the vineyard. Our farming team, headed by Doug Hill, planted this vineyard in 1990 and has farmed it continuously since.
Co-fermented with 11% Petit Verdot, this is a serious, classically made wine from the generous appellation, Old World in its grippy structure and full embrace of cedar, pencil shavings and dried herb. Clove and peppercorn provide additional spice around a length of firm, integrated tannin and oak, finishing in a sanguine element of meat. - 95 Pts - Wine Enthusiast
A range of sage, mint and sassafras aromas leads off, followed by alluring raspberry and plum fruit. Shows a lightly mulled edge as all the elements meld together. Maintains a suave feel and lingers seductively on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2030. 647 cases made. - 94 Pts Wine Spectator
