STORY BEHIND THE WINE 

Hochar Père et Fils Red has often been described as the ‘second’ wine of Chateau Musar, as its style does bear some resemblance to the flagship wine but the comparison stops there as its vineyards, blend and ageing places are very different.

Chateau Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar. It is still owned and run by younger generations. The vineyards are at a high altitude and benefit from gravelly soils which encourage the production of high quality grapes.The Hochar is a single vineyard red made from old , low-yielding vines grown 1000m above sea level.The 180 hectares of Musar vineyards are managed with minimal human intervention . Their red wine has never been clarified or filtered and fermintation is done by wild yeast .The vineyards were certified organic in 2006.
