Intensely expressive dry Mosel Riesling with extended lees contact

This Riesling opens with a striking balance of vibrant fruit and deep, savory lees character. Golden delicious apple, poached pear, and Meyer lemon curd fold into subtle layers of fresh brioche, wild white blossoms, and grated ginger. On the palate, it delivers electric tension and remarkable depth inside a weightless, lithe structure. Eleven months of extended gross lees aging yields a supple, gently creamed texture that cradles the wine's chiseled acidity. A core of blue-grey slate and quartzite minerality drives toward a long, bone-dry finish marked by crushed stone, sea salt, and lingering citrus zest.

      • 100% Riesling
      • Aged eleven months of extended lees contact
      • James Suckling | 95 Points
      Cellaring:  Ideal now through 2033
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with pan-seared scallops, grilled halibut, and lobster with drawn butter. The lees-derived richness and savory complexity make it a wonderful companion for roasted pork, aged gouda, and dishes with cream sauces or subtle spice. Also excellent alongside sushi, Thai cuisine, and anything with ginger or lemongrass. | 🌡️ The wine should be served at around 13°C

      STORY BEHIND THE LABEL

Based in Brauneberg at the heart of the Mosel Valley, Weingut Günther Steinmetz is a third-generation family estate led by husband-and-wife team Stefan and Sammie Steinmetz. Building on a century of family tradition, they craft raw, terroir-driven wines across 12 hectares of legendary slate slopes - including prized plots in the Brauneberger Juffer, Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, and Dhroner Hofberg. Practicing low-intervention, natural viticulture, they reject all chemical fertilisers, herbicides, and insecticides, focusing instead on strict yield control and hand-harvesting old, ungrafted Riesling vines from precipitous inclines that can only be worked by hand.

In the cellar, Stefan and Sammie adhere to a strict minimal-intervention ethos: 100% wild, spontaneous fermentations with zero additives, fining agents, or animal products. Renowned wine critic Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com) consistently celebrates Steinmetz dry Rieslings for their breathtaking intensity, off-the-scale concentration, and razor-sharp slate precision. These are singular, cellar-worthy Mosel wines defined by pure linearity and electric tension.
