Ripe, creamy and saline Cotes de Provence Rosé | Cru Classé

"There is an Ott signature for all of their rosés, creating elegant, silky wines with subtle differences reflecting the terroir of each estate. This one, from coastal vineyards surrounded by a nature reserve, seemingly has an extra salty tang from its proximity to the sea, and whiter, fresher fruit. A pale shell-pink, with delicate peach aromas; the wine opens up to ripe white peach, and creamy nut richness (from slightly longer ageing on the lees) is balanced by a long, crisp, saline citrus acidity."

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

Founded back in 1912 by Marcel Ott, Domaines Ott* is still run by the Ott family today, though it has been part of the Champagne Louis Roederer house since 2018. Across all three of their estates, they focus entirely on organic farming and stay true to the classic Provençal rosé tradition. One of these properties is Clos Mireille, which they took over in 1956. Tucked away in a protected nature reserve in La Londe, the vineyards slope right down toward the Mediterranean. The vines grow in shallow schist and quartz soils, soaking up the coastal sun and constant sea breezes, which is exactly what gives these Côtes de Provence wines their distinct character.

As for the 2024 vintage, the weather played along perfectly. A mild, rainy spring led into a hot, dry summer, but the nights stayed cool enough to let the grapes ripen slowly and evenly. The harvest turned out incredibly healthy and well-balanced. This year’s wine is incredibly elegant, with a really fine aroma and a crisp acidity that means it will age beautifully.
