Superbly classic expression of Left-Bank Bordeaux

Full-bodied, muscular and still retaining dense purple hues. Aromatics of crushed violet, blackcurrant, damson and cassis. The palate is broad with tobacco leaf, cedar, smoke and a melange of spices. With tannins still retaining a gentle grip this is a concentrated, classic Bordeaux.

  • 92pts Robert Parker, May 2016

STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

Built with the long term in mind by a man with a vision. That visionary was Anthony Barton, credited with constantly producing top quality wines within a much more modest price bracket than his peers. This 2006 is now regarded as one of the finest left-bank reds of that vintage.
Barton’s passing earlier this year is a loss to both Bordeaux and Ireland but the “gentleman” of Bordeaux’s legacy is secured in part by great wines like this. Drinking well now while still retaining the legs to run for many years. Read more.
