Elegant, structured, and incredibly refreshing Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige - Monumental!

Forget what you think you know about Pinot Grigio. Right out of the glass, this wine hits you with a gorgeous, complex mix of ripe yellow peach, rustic heirloom pear, and sweet cantaloupe. On the palate, it drinks with a surprisingly dense, satisfying weight and a distinct, almost "meaty" minerality that you rarely find with this grape. Despite that rich texture, it never feels heavy - a fantastic streak of vibrant, invigorating acidity cuts right through, keeping the whole thing elegant, structured, and incredibly refreshing from the first sip to the last.
    • Fermentation 80% at controlled temperature in large oak barrels, 20% in French barriques - ageing on the fine lees for 10 months
    • Decanter | 93/100 points
    • James Suckling | 94/100 points

    Cellaring:  Ideal now through 2029
Food Pairing:Try pairing this wine with a board of thinly sliced Speck and aged alpine cheeses, or a classic serving of prosciutto and melon. Also fantastic alongside pan-seared scallops in a brown butter herb sauce or hearty roasted monkfish. It also stands up beautifully to white meats, making it a great match for a roasted pork tenderloin served with an orchard-fruit or apple compote | 🌡️ Served slightly chilled, between 12 -14 °C

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

To call the Penon "just another Pinot Grigio" would be missing the point entirely - the winery actually refers to it as "the monumental one." To unlock the grape's true, often-overlooked potential, the Kurtatsch growers strictly reduce their yields and give these vines obsessive attention year-round.

The magic really happens in the vineyard's specific location: the high-altitude hamlet of Penon. Sitting between 450 and 700 meters above sea level on porous dolomite rock, the vines are forced to work hard. This extreme alpine elevation allows for a wonderfully long ripening period, building intense concentration and that signature mineral crunch without losing freshness. It’s a brilliant, terroir-driven showcase of exactly what Pinot Grigio can become when grown in the absolute perfect spot.
