The essence of Cristal from an exceptional vintage
"Tiny bead. Seriously impressive tension in this bottle whose flavour (but not mousse) is explosive. It starts tight and taut, opens out to breadth of fruit on the mid palate, and then offers a positive fan of flavour on the bone-dry finish, all the time titillating every taste bud. Firm and a delightfully serious wine." Jancis Robinson. Cristal is this Roederer's flagship and its easy to taste why.

Food Pairing: While Champagne and lobster is a classic, many food experts will say that this pairing can only reach its pinnacle with a vintage, like this Cristal. Fancy a luxurious breakfast? Then try it with poached eggs, parmesan and smoked salmon. Tempura-based Asian cuisine or even the humble Fish & Chips will also pair amazingly.
STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
You may not have heard the name Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon but you will be aware of his work. Since taking up the reins with Roederer in 1999 he has built a reputation as one of the finest winemakers in Champagne.
Roederer’s flagship is Cristal, a vintage made only on the best years. This 2013 is a mixture of Chardonnay (40%) and Pinot Noir (60%). 2013 was an exceptional year for both varieties with the finesse of Chardonnay in particular shining through.
2008 was the previous vintage to this expression and one that Jena-Baptiste was particularly proud of. His 2013 has now gone one step further.
To quote Jean-Baptiste himself “ 2013 is the new 2008, or rather I should say it is 2008- Plus. Cristal 2013? it is the Cristal of all Cristalssssss”
