Château Citran, 2018

Excellent Vintage for Bordeaux

2018 is regarded as an excellent vintage in Bordeaux and Citran was reviewed well by most critics. The wine is very dark and the nose is dominated by black fruits, mostly blackcurrant with subtle plum and a lightly spicy graphite note. Tannins are ripe with no greenness and add a little weight and structure to the palate suggesting it will age well.

STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

Chateau Citran is a large and historic estate in the Haut-Médoc about 8km west of Margaux, that can trace its origins back to the 13th century. It has about 100ha of vines planted with 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Cabernet Franc and 2.5% Petit Verdot and historically it was classified as a cru bourgeois supérieur. Wines are aged in oak barriques about 40% of which are new for around 14 months. A portion of the estate is farmed organically.
