"Bordeaux is the region that lit the touchpaper for most wine lovers, perhaps because of the accessible classifications.

The 1855 is the most famous of all wine classifications, ranking the estates on the left bank. This is easily understood as a pyramid of quality.Or perhaps it's the relatively simple set of grape varieties that are traditionally used in Bordeaux. 

Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc are the main trio, but smaller plantings of petit verdot, malbec and carmenère exist as blending components. Now, drought-resistant outsider varieties are also permitted in small quantities. Perhaps it's the fact that these relatively oaky, rich wines, are easy to be impressed by and easy to enjoy.Whatever the reason, the region's most famous wines names captivate us. Lafite & Mouton Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Haut-Brion are the stuff of wine history. Bordeaux, however, is not just about these famous names, as this bottle shows"

The Cuvelier family own the prestigious estates Chateau Leoville Poyferré in Saint-Julien and Le Crock in Saint-Estephe. This wine comes from bought-in fruit, but is made with the same care and expertise as the more grand estates. "
