"JOAN and Josep d’Anguera’s biodynamic, unfined and unfiltered, “village” wine, made with hand-picked Garnacha fruit from vineyards in Montsant, Catalonia, Spain, is simply superb.

Fermented in concrete tanks (with 20 per cent in oak barrels) for a year, the wine is powerful, but smooth and well-balanced, with soft red fruit and spice aromas leading to a palate with ripe raspberry, redcurrant, and spice notes. Super length.

Enjoy with: Grilled pork chops."

Montsant DO Altaroses from Whelehans Wines

"EXCELLENT introduction to the world of Bordeaux, at a very good price.

A very approachable red blend from the Haut-Médoc AOC, on the left bank of the river Gironde, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the dominant grape varieties, with cherry fruit, and tell-tale pencil shavings, evident on the nose.

The palate is round, medium-bodied, and fresh with juicy red fruits and a nice tannic structure. Drinking beautifully now.

Enjoy with: Roast beef."
