Cool everyday-quality Spanish red

100% “Granatxa” (Grenache/Garnacha), unfined and unfiltered, and aged for 12-14 months in French oak barriques, this wine is a wonderfully restrained and elegant expression of the Montsant terruño (terroir). With great purity of fruit, it is much lighter than what you might expect from a Montsant “Granatxa”, a true everyday drinking wine.

Food Pairing: Light pork and poultry dishes

Cellaring: Drinks very well now

STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

Joan d’Anguera founded this estate in 1820 in the wine-producing region of Montsant which surrounds Priorat in Catalonia in Spain’s northeast. Fast forward seven generations, mostly of bulk wine production, and another Joan and his brother Josep, guided by their mother Mercè, have built on the innovative work of their father, Josep d’Anguera Senior, who died prematurely in 2000. The estate is now fully biodynamic and producing a range and quality of wines that had led to wide acclaim. Though Priorat’s powerful red wines have allowed it to lord it over its near neighbour, Montsant is steadily building its own reputation with the likes of the Joan d’Anguera estate to the fore. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate scored a collection of their wines from 88 to 96.
