We are dedicated Burgundy enthusiasts here at Whelehans Wines and like to keep our fingers firmly on the pulse of this extraordinary wine region. Burgundy, year in, year out gives us many of the world’s greatest Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.  A region of unique intrigue and diversity.

In the North where the Kimmeridgian soil is king the AOC of Chablis delivers wines of such precision and intensity. We ship directly the wines of Domaine du Colombier whose Premier Cru & Grand Cru offer amazing value.

Our Côtes de Beaune offering is very strong and we are particularly proud to ship directly the wines of Jean Marc Vincent& Domaine Latour-Giraud.

We are also particularly proud to represent Domaine Latour-Giraud who sculpt incredible wines in the AOC of Meursault. Jasper Morris has just rated the vintage 2022 of this estate very highly. For Puligny-Montrachet lovers we have some great names to draw on including Domaine Etienne Sauzet, Jean Marc Vincent& Jean-Louis Chavy……

Our Côtes de Nuits offering features some great growers from Vosne Romanée, Échezeaux like Domaine Michel Nöellat, Denis Mortet from Gevrey Chambertin. We are singularly proud to direct import the glorious wines of Domaine Michel Nöellat whose Chambolle- Musigny is dreamy. Before we move towards the Maconnais the wines of our very own Irish Roisin Curley demand a look in.  Roisin Curley MW is one of the shining lights of the Irish wine industry and has managed to do almost the impossible. Work in Ireland yet craft some exceptional wines in Burgundy. We particularly love  Roisin’s Saint-Roman 2021. 

The Maçonnais in the far south of Burgundy can offer particularly good value with whites and we are very proud to work exclusively with Domaine Carrette & Domaine Guerrin.

Domaine Guerrin attracted the following glowing words: “As I wrote last year, Vergisson-based Domaine Guerrin et Fils still flies under the radar, but it's an estate on the rise. Harvested by hand, fermented in stainless steel and oak barrels according to the cuvée and matured on the lees for a year, these are beautifully balanced, concentratedwines.”

Let us not ignore the Gamay grape which can more than delight from a good grower. We are intrigued how a well-constructed Beaujolais cru can mirror the evolution of a good Pinot Noir and display so much intrigue and complexity. We particularly recommend the Crus of Dominique Pirons – Incredible. We are of course also partial to the wines of Foillard.

We urge you to taste your way through the appellations of Burgundy and to taste how with great terroir, Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs can be the greatest wines in the world.
