A Chianti Classico with an elegant nose and structured palate

Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2023 is ruby red in color. On the nose, notes of marasca cherry and candied orange are accompanied by sweet hints of vanilla and icing sugar, followed by floral nuances of rose petals and mallow. The bouquet is completed by a complex sweet-spice framework recalling licorice, cedarwood, and caramel. On the palate, the rich and enveloping entry opens onto a well-balanced mouthfeel; sweet, savoury, and silky tannins accompany a long, energetic finish, marked by pleasant boisée notes.

    • Blend of 90% Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero
    • Aged 12 months partly in large barrels and partly in barriques
    Cellaring:  Drink now to 2036
Food Pairing:  Superb with slow-cooked ragù, wood-fired wild mushroom pizza, rosemary-crusted lamb chops, and aged Pecorino cheese. It also pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan dishes like Bistecca alla Fiorentina or rich tomato-based stews. | 🌡️ The wine should be served at around 16°C–18°C.

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

The 2023 growing season in Chianti Classico tested growers with a damp, cool spring, but it ultimately worked in their favour by producing beautifully concentrated, smaller berries. A warm summer and a steady, mild autumn followed, allowing the Sangiovese and its complementary blending grapes to ripen perfectly by the October harvest. In the cellar, the Antinori team handled the fruit gently, keeping skin maceration to around two weeks to draw out smooth tannins and a vibrant structure. The wine was then aged in a mix of large oak casks and barriques until spring 2025, giving it a beautifully polished finish before bottling.

This Antinori family's historic label, since the 2011 vintage Marchese Antinori has been produced with grapes exclusively from the Tignanello vineyard. It's made almost entirely with Sangiovese with a small percentage of other complementary varieties. The estate's two signature wines, Solaia and Tignanello, are produced from these vineyards and have been defined by the international press as “among the most influential wines in the history of Italian viticulture”
