    STORY BEHIND THE STORY

    Castello Collemassari was founded in 1998 and is part of the Montecucco DOC area, a territory which is ideal for the growing of Sangiovese, and situated between the DOCG areas of Brunello di Montalcino and Morellino di Scansano. The first vintage produced was 2000. The wines at this beautiful estate are organic and sensational. Gambero Rosso voted this winery, winery of the year 2014. Expect incredibly intense, well judged wines with a great sense of terroir.

    This Montecucco Rosso “Rigoleto” is crafted from a masterful blend of 70% Sangiovese, along with Ciliegiolo and Montepulciano. These three grape varieties grow in a vineyard situated 300 meters above sea level, on a hilly terrain characterized by a limestone and marl terroir. The grapes, carefully selected during the harvest by the ColleMassari team, undergo alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, macerating for 15-20 days and also completing malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages for 10 months in both steel and in second- and third-use barriques and tonneaux.
