Rich, velvety and balanced red from one of the smallest Bordeaux appellations

Expressive and lively with a very intense purple colour and attractive aromas of wild hedgerow fruit, juicy blackberries and sloes, this is a lovely, rich and velvety wine. Made from a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the latter gives a fresh blast of red fruit flavours to the wine. It is the freshness of the wine that balances the weight of the intense tannins and leads to a pure, almost minty finish with a lovely vein of fresh juice on the finish.
    • Blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc
    • Aged 16 months in barrique
    • Robert Parker | 91 Pts
    • James Suckling | 93 Pts
    Cellaring: Drink now to 2032
Food Pairing: The wine pairs exceptionally well with classic pan-seared duck breast, roast leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary, or slow-braised beef short ribs. For a cheese course, it pairs brilliantly with a mature Comté or Saint-Nectaire | 🌡️ Best served slightly below room temperature between 16°C to 18°C

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

The property was acquired by George Thienpont in 1946. He replanted it with vines towards the end of the 1970s. Since 1983, Nicolas Thienpont has been making the wines. For the past few years, the replanting of the vineyard has contributed to improving the precision of the wine thanks to rootstocks adapted to the soil and a choice of high-quality clones or massal selection.

Château Puygueraud comes from 35 hectares of vines lying on a rocky plateau with clayey-calcareous soils. The team use traditional agriculture and each plot is worked individually to make sure the plant and the soil are working well together.
