Kurtatsch, "Sonntaler", Schiava, Südtirol Alto Adige DOC, 2024

The winery lovingly refers to the Sonntaler as "the classic one," and it is easy to see why. This wine is a beautiful homage to local tradition, crafted as an assemblage of different native Schiava grape varieties sourced exclusively from Kurtatsch’s absolute oldest vineyards. We are talking about historic vines that are between 60 and 90 years old. While these old vines naturally produce far fewer grapes, the yields they do offer are intensely concentrated and of the highest quality. By choosing to age the wine in traditional concrete tanks rather than oak, the winemakers preserve the pure, vibrant energy of that heirloom fruit, capturing the true, unmasked essence of the South Tyrolean terroir.
