Bright & Complex Barbera d'Alba with Elegant Acidity
The 2024 Barbera shows a lively purple color. The nose opens with violet, fresh blackberries, dark cherry fruit, spices, fresh lavender and whiffles of marzipan and crushed stones. The palate is fragrant and bright with elegant acidity, notes of strawberries, plum, herbal tones and fresh black currant and dark berries.
"The G.D. Vajra 2024 Barbera d'Alba is super fresh and primary, exactly as this wine was intended. From a cool and rainy vintage, this easy red draws fruit from various sites, and winemaking is simple in order to facilitate a quick bottling and release schedule. What it lacks in depth and complexity, it makes up for in brightness and approachability. This is a simple but very charming Barbera."

STORY BEHIND THE WINE
In 1971, Aldo Vajra, then still a university student, was one of the earliest to adopt organic farming in Piemonte. Vineyards have been nurtured, and soil preserved, by grassing and spontaneous cover crop for almost 50 years now. They are sustainable and organic certified. With an incredible ratio of manual work per hectare, farming at Vajra is a labor of love and “recipe-free” attention. Intense research is also placed into monitoring and improving the biodiversity of both flora and fauna not just in the vineyards, but also in the winery fields and forests.
