    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

A document from the early 16th century mentions the appointment of a certain Thiébaut Gresser, a winegrower by trade, as the Provost of the town of Andlau. This means that wine has been in the family for nearly 5 centuries - it has even become an unchanging tradition.

Today, Rémy Gresser cultivates a little over 10 hectares around Andlau on beautiful schist, sand, and clay terroirs. His plots are located in the three Grand Crus of the commune: Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg, and Moenchberg.

Having been at the head of the estate since 1977, Rémy Gresser sums himself up in one short sentence: "I cultivate the vine according to the rule of our ancestors; I feel like a farmer and artisan of the vine." His wines, always well-rated by critics, elegantly illustrate this winegrower's passion for Alsace and its terroirs.

Hailing from the Duttenberg terroir, this wine is cultivated on marly soil with an eastern orientation. The 35-year-old vines are farmed using biodynamic practices, with a focus on compost, organic manure, and plowing to ensure the highest quality grapes.

The harvest was done by hand to ensure the grapes were picked at their peak physiological maturity. Following a gentle pneumatic pressing, the juice underwent a 36-hour cold-must-settling. Fermentation occurred naturally with native yeasts, and the wine was then aged on its fine lees in oak barrels.
