STORY BEHIND THE WINE

Raised on a farm in Beaujolais, Frédéric Berne has always felt a deep-rooted connection to the land. Drawn to wine for its ability to reflect the character of its terroir, he pursued winemaking and honed his skills across southern Burgundy before founding his namesake domaine in 2013. Today, he farms nearly eight hectares of certified organic vineyards spread across Beaujolais-Villages, Lantignié, Morgon, Régnié, and Chiroubles. A passionate advocate for sustainable viticulture and site expression, Frédéric is one of the leading voices championing Lantignié as the next recognised cru of Beaujolais.

All of the grapes were hand harvested. Frédéric follows a policy of minimal intervention in his winemaking and uses only indigenous yeasts. The 2023 'Gamay Noir' was made using 100% whole bunch and semi-carbonic maceration with fermentation in stainless-steel tanks lasting for around 5 days. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for around six months in concrete vats prior to bottling.
