    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

A document from the early 16th century mentions the appointment of a certain Thiébaut Gresser, a winegrower by trade, as the Provost of the town of Andlau. This means that wine has been in the family for nearly 5 centuries - it has even become an unchanging tradition.

Today, Rémy Gresser cultivates a little over 10 hectares around Andlau on beautiful schist, sand, and clay terroirs. His plots are located in the three Grand Crus of the commune: Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg, and Moenchberg.

Having been at the head of the estate since 1977, Rémy Gresser sums himself up in one short sentence: "I cultivate the vine according to the rule of our ancestors; I feel like a farmer and artisan of the vine." His wines, always well-rated by critics, elegantly illustrate this winegrower's passion for Alsace and its terroirs.

This wine comes from 30-year-old vines planted on clay soil with an eastern exposure. The vineyard is managed using biodynamic practices that incorporate compost, organic manure, and plowing. Grapes were hand-harvested in September 2022 at their peak ripeness. The wine was made using the ancestral method, which involves maceration throughout alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. This was followed by pneumatic pressing, malolactic fermentation, and aging in oak barrels.
