A Full-bodied Cannubi with density, concentration and freshness

"A restrained wine full of elegance and subtlety. Red and black cherry, sweet violet, earth and licorice aromas unfold in the glass. Full-bodied, it shows density, concentration, crisp acidity and a minty aftertaste."
    Jancis Robinson

"Francesco Rinaldi & Figli is privileged to farm 2.5 hectares of vines in the celebrated Cannubi MGA. With a long fermentation and extended maceration in Slavonian oak and three years of oak aging, the 2021 Barolo Cannubi comes out of the gate with integrated tannins and softened primary flavors of redcurrant, pressed violets and fine spice. The flavors are nicely meshed together, giving this wine a mid-weight and open-knit disposition."
    -Robert Parker

    STORY BEHIND THE LABEL

The historic Piedmont Francesco Rinaldi Figli estate dates back over 150 years to 1870 and sprightly nonagenarian Luciana Rinaldi has been at the helm since 1941, aided today by his nieces Paola and Piera. Not surprisingly they are staunch traditionalists in the Barolo and Barbaresco style debate. They allow their Nebbiolo grapes a long maceration before ageing in large Slovenian oak botti, eschewing the trendy use of small French oak barriques. The resulting wines are archetypal examples with great fruit purity, complex aromas, firm tannins and huge ageing potential.

This historical vineyard, among the most esteemed in the Barolo area, features a mixture of Tortonian and Helvetian soils from different geological eras, imparting a unique complexity and richness to the soil. The high sand content gives the wine an intense bouquet which is fruity when it is young, but which develops spicier tones as it evolves.
