One of the legendary wines of the world, Hermitage "La Chapelle"

Reminiscent of the legendary 2009, the 2017 La Chapelle is an absolute knockout. It’s a massive, opulent wine defined by layers of smoked black fruit, scorched earth, graphite, and a subtle, savory meatiness. This is a 'monster' of a Hermitage - full-bodied, incredibly deep, and so seductive that it’s already hard to resist. While it’s drinking beautifully now, it has the bones to evolve for 30 years or more. Only 2,000 cases were made; if you love Syrah, this belongs in your cellar

    • 100% Syrah
    • From plots: Le Méal (50%), Les Bessards (25%), and Rocoules (25%)
    • Aged in 15% new oak, with the balance in once-used, twice-used, and older barrels and demi-muids
    • James Suckling | 98/100 Pts
    • Robert Parker | 98/100 Pts

Cellaring:  At its best between 10-25 years of age
Food Pairing: Perfect with grilled beef, lamb, duck, and game like venison or pheasant | 🌡️ Serve around 16-18 °C

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

The story of Hermitage began in 1224 with the knight Gaspard de Sterimberg. Wounded in the Albigensian Crusade, he sought peace on these sun-drenched hillsides, founding a hermitage that would eventually give the world one of its greatest wines.

This particular cuvée is a "best-of" selection from the most stunning plots in the west of the appellation. We’re talking serious old-vine pedigree here - vines ranging from 40 to 95 years old, hand-trained on stakes across a complex mosaic of terroirs. It’s this diversity of soil that creates the signature, multidimensional style of this exceptional wine.

Paul Jaboulet-Aîné, was founded in 1834 in Tain L'Hermitage. The renowned oenologist and winemaker, Caroline Frey, has been running this illustrious house, owned by the Frey family, since 2006. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné watches over 125 hectares of vines that spread over exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.

The vineyards of Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage have been managed using biodynamic practices since 2017.
