The W wine buying team were thrilled to stumble upon this great operation at Wine Paris 2020 in the Tre Bicchieri Room (the top award) of the Italian Wine Bible the Gambero Rosso. Have you tasted the Zin Fiano? Was whispered, not yet…. A few minutes later we were in discussion and a few weeks later the wines landed.  Tom Doorley Irish Daily Mail & Martin Moran of the Sunday Times both featured the Zin Fiano 2019 as one of their wines of the week. What is thrilling about the wines of this operation is the history of the grape varieties they work with, we are talking Roman times and the love of nature that reflects itself so evidently in their wines.

The winery itself is a cooperative that has a big heart and a keen focus on best environmental viticultural practices. The leading Italian Wine Guide, Gambero Rossso 2020 awards this operation “Sustainable Viticultural Award” 2020 for the whole of Italy. The love and dedication that this winery has always shown towards viticulture, oenology and the territory is well noted and they are seen as particular champions of the Primitivo grape.

The adventure of this winery began in 1928 when, a small group of winemakers created the "Wine Federation" an association of producers that four years later, on 9 July 1932, took the legal form as a cooperative with the establishment of the "Consortium for Producers of superior red wines and musts for the Manduria area".

We are particularly delighted to welcome this progressive operation with its specialism in the Primitivo grape to our portfolio. Particularly the  Lirica 2017 Primitivo di Manduria, awarded the Tre Bicchieri by the Gambero Rosso 2020. Rich, polished and memorable.
