At Whelehans Wines, we believe wine is more than a drink - it's a doorway to culture, history, and connection. That’s the spirit behind our Exploration Thursdays: a carefully curated series of tasting events that invite you to explore themed selections of wine (and sometimes other beverages!) in an intimate, engaging setting.

Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, these evenings are a chance to expand your palate and meet like-minded people who appreciate the stories behind the bottle. 

What to Expect

Each Exploration Thursday features:

• A unique theme, ranging from specific regions or grape varieties to seasonal styles and even spirits like whiskey and beer.

• Six carefully selected wines or spirits, introduced and discussed by our in-house experts, Dale Gatcum, Liam Campbell or David Whelehan

• A curated charcuterie and cheese plate from our local partner, Iciar, selected to complement and enhance the tasting experience.

• An intimate atmosphere - limited to just 16 guests, to ensure a personalised and engaging evening.

Spotlight: Austria & Germany | 30th October 2025

On this special night, we turn the spotlight to Austria and Germany - two neighbouring countries with rich, distinct wine traditions. Expect a vibrant journey through six exceptional wines that capture the heart of these cool-climate regions.

You'll taste:

• The crisp, stony Grüner Veltliner, Austria's signature white

• The aromatic beauty of German Riesling, balancing sweetness and acidity

• A refreshing Pet Nat for a playful take on sparkling

• The red-fruited elegance of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) from Germany

• And Austria’s rising red stars: Blaufränkisch and Blauer Zweigelt, known for their structure, spice, and food-friendliness

This is an evening for those curious about cool-climate expressions, indigenous varieties, and how Old World traditions continue to innovate.
