Bargain joven Rioja - Medium bodied packed with pleasure
Hints of fresh fruit, redcurrants, blueberries. When swirled, reminders of spices, pipe tobacco and lactic nuances appear. A supple, fresh attack. Light tannins as it passes through the mouth, with liveliness, fruit flavours and herbs such as coriander, along with lactic nuances recalling cream patisserie. Long and flavoursome in the finish.
"A bargain of a wine, even at its full price, and an interesting example of an old-school, fifth generation, family-run estate not afraid to tinker with the modern style of Rioja, this would make a great wine to serve at home with everything from the roast on Sunday to charcuterie for cosy movie nights. With refreshing aromas of wild mint, tea and rain-soaked stone giving edge to pomegranate and cherry, it plays to the lighter side of medium-bodied, with linear focus cushioned by soft edges. In a word, balanced." Aoife Carrigy, Irish Independent, 25th September 2021.
"This is reduced from €17 for August and is a steal at this price. Alavesa is the smallest of the three Rioja sub-regions which are often equal in quality to Rioja Alta. This is a joven (lightly aged) Rioja packed with ripe soft fruits and a perfect summer wine amenable to being served cool. Soft blackberry and blueberry aromas with a hit of blueberry muffin creaminess, fruity and juicy and packed with pleasure." Irish Examiner, Leslie Williams, August 10th 2021.
