STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
The Türk winery is located west of Vienna in the idyllic wine village of Stratzing in Kremstal. The roots of the renowned family business go back to the beginning of the 18th century. They own 17ha of quality vineyards, several of which are erste lage or premier cru with about 75% planted with Grüner Veltliner.
Winemaker Franz Türk’s philosophy is to draw on centuries of accumulated family knowledge but also to try something new. His focus is on producing wines with character and finesse, that reflect their terroir, built for the long term, not a sprint or to have flashy fruitiness in youth. The often internationally awarded sweet wines are a special insider tip. Read more.
Weingut Türk Kremser Weinberge is made from fruit from two vineyards on the estate whose Riesling vines average over 50 years old grown on rocky soils with low yields to create wines that reflect that with a minerality to go with varietal riesling characters, so expect to find succulent stone fruit such as peach with lemon and lime underpinned by a dry palate with saline minerality and a zesty citrus fresh finish. 2018 was a warm vintage, so the fruit is a little riper but Riesling always retains acidity and so freshness.
"A stunner of a Riesling from Austria with laser-like focus, bone dry but honeyed, bright and pure, with a mineral kick." Tom Doorley, The Irish Mail on Sunday, 14th March, 2021
"Riesling is good at any level, but Austria makes great dry ones like this with its minerality and purity of fruit." 90/100 - Martin Moran, The Sunday Times, February 21st 2021
"Riesling is hardly a new grape to you but the Austrian style is often more elegant and subtle than those found in Germany and Alsace. This has lively floral and citrus aromas and a pristine palate that somehow envelopes its flinty fruits in a fleshy floral shell giving the wine texture as well as vibrancy. Türk Grüner Veltliner is also recommended and featured here last year - there are four to choose from." Leslie Williams, Irish Examiner, 20/02/21
