Exploration Thursdays | Thursday 17th of September 2026 - Masterclass: Hermanos Hernáiz

As the evenings start to draw in and we look towards richer, more complex wines, join us for a really special night celebrating one of Spain’s true historic gems. On Thursday 17th September, Jorge Trujillo from Hermanos Hernáiz will be joining the Whelehans Wine Team for an interactive masterclass on their incredible estate, Finca La Emperatriz. Together, we’ll trace the history of this unique Rioja Alta property - from its imperial origins under Empress Eugénie de Montijo to its modern standing at the very top of Spanish winemaking.

We’ve put together a fantastic line-up from across the estate’s distinct micro-parcels, poured alongside a spread of artisanal cheeses, cured meats, and gourmet bites picked to pair with every glass. We’ll be tasting through everything from crisp, mineral-driven Viura whites to the complex, structured Tempranillo and Garnacha reds that thrive at 570 metres above sea level. Jorge will also talk us through the Hernáiz family's 15-year commitment to regenerative viticulture, parcel-by-parcel winemaking, and how working with nature brings such fresh, vibrant character to their bottles.

It promises to be a relaxed, friendly evening full of exceptional wine, great food, and fascinating stories from the heart of Rioja Alta.
