L'Escaleta is a wine from a single Carignan plot in the village of Torroja del Priorat. On the nose are intense aromas of blackberry , violets and lavender which gradually lead into mineral notes of charcoal and graphite. The minerality and earthiness are balanced with a string of bright fruits, indigenous herbs, flowers, and spices, creating a complex structure. A balanced acidity enhances the flavours and smooth tannins melt away, revealing a measured potency that makes it very pleasant to drink. Whiffs of smoke accompany the long finish accented by notes of balsamic and Mediterranean herbs

The winery, founded by Luis Bravo, is located right in the heart of the Priorat, near Torroja del Priorat. The landscape consists of unruled rock formations covered by volcanic soil containing slate, ash and mica, by the locals referred to as llicorella. In combination with scorching hot sun, cool seawind and humidity and fog from the mountains , the vineyards enjoy unique conditions to grow vines and grapes filled with character and depth of flavour. The current wine maker Pep Aguilar started more than 20 years ago here in Torroja. After years of traveling as a wine consultant, working with wineries all over Spain under the most diverse conditions, he developed unique skills and experiences with all the different elements and soils. Priorat is the most interesting to him: the strong appellation, the terroir, it’s brutal energy, the contrasts. Pep is dedicated to make a new and modern Priorat wine. One with traditional quality but with freshness, good acidity, elegance, finesse and tension.
