A Powerful and Profound Sweet Wine from Sauternes

The 2016 Château de Fargues captivates with its deep golden hue and an enchanting bouquet of yellow fruits, honey, and citrus, accented by delicate notes of linden and verbena. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied, lavish texture balanced by a refreshing lift, leading to a pure, lasting finish that resonates with finesse.

    • Blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc
    • Aged 30 months in oak plus another six months in bottle
    • Robert Parker 95-97/100
    • Jancis Robinson 17/20

Food Pairing: We suggest opting for classics like roast chicken or surprising your guests by pairing this fine Sauternes with oysters, scallops, or other shellfish. It’s also a perfect match for tart dishes, such as a fish or scallop carpaccio.

    STORY BEHIND THE WINE

Château de Fargues stands out as a unique estate in Sauternes, crafting a powerful, complex sweet wine. Although the estate wasn’t producing sweet whites at the time of the 1855 classification—it converted from red to white grape varieties only in the early 20th century—it embodies the quality of a Premier Cru Classé. The Lur Saluces family, who once raised Château d’Yquem to prominence before its sale to LVMH, continues this tradition of excellence at Château de Fargues, reserving only the finest vintages for bottling.
The 2016 vintage at Château de Fargues is marked by a uniform and early ripening, along with timely botrytisation, giving the wine a distinctively balanced and accessible profile. The cool, dry end of the season preserved the fruit’s freshness, which is vividly expressed in every glass of the Château de Fargues 2016.
The estate carefully harvests its fruit through four passes, with a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, which then undergoes several weeks of fermentation with natural yeasts in barrels. A long maturation of 30 months in oak, about one-third of which are new barrels, followed by another six months in bottle, defines the wine’s signature character.
