Big, velvety, balanced: A true Amarone masterclass!

Pours a deep garnet red in the glass. On the nose, it’s intense and ethereal, hitting you with a wave of rich dark fruit - think black cherry, plum, and cherries macerated in spirit. As it sits, a steady succession of aromas unfolds, revealing complex layers of warm spice, licorice, and dark coffee. The palate is big, warm, and velvety, but beautifully held together. Despite the powerful structure and high alcohol typical of a classic Amarone, it stays completely balanced thanks to incredibly smooth tannins and a lively streak of freshness that cuts right through the richness.

    • Blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone
    • Vitae Guide  | Vitae 4 Viti  - Highest most prestigious rating given by the Italian Sommelier Association
Cellaring:  Drinks well now through 2045
Food Pairing: Excellent with slow-braised beef short ribs in a rich reduction, pan-seared venison loin, or roast pheasant. It is also a wonderful match for wild mushroom and truffle risotto, and an artisan cheese selection featuring Cashel Blue, Roquefort, aged Gouda or Cheddar | 🌡️ Serve at around 14-16°C

    STORY BEHIND THE LABEL

Considered the ultimate expression of Valpolicella, Lorenzo Begali’s Amarone Classico is a masterclass in traditional winemaking. Crafting it is a complex art form, requiring meticulous care across multiple vineyard plots to cultivate and harvest a precise blend of the regional "queen grape" Corvina, its balancing relative Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta. After vinification, the wine is aged for an extended period in oak barrels and tonneaux before getting a few final months of bottle refinement to create a truly masterful classic.

The Begali Estate (10 hectares) is situated in the DOC of Valpolicella in a small hamlet called Cengia. Here, the terroir is particularly conducive to producing intense, fragrant wines. Since the early 1900s, the Begali family has passed their learnings and love of the land tradition from generation to generation. Giordano Begali began to produce wine after the Second World War, is succeeded at the helm by his son Lorenzo and his wife Adriana.
