Country: Spain
Appellation: Penedés

Lying just 60 kilometers west of Barcelona, the bodega and vineyards of MontRubí are situated in the wine region of Penedès, standing at over 2,000 feet above the sea, in the Catalan PreCoastal Range. The name MontRubí was created in 1984 in honor of the 19th century property in L’Avellà that the Peris family refurbished to house the winery.

The philosophy at MontRubí is one of traditional viticulture; sustainable and environmentally friendly, albeit with a simultaneous commitment to innovation.

The "Gaintus" project began in the year 2000 at MontRubí to help revitalize the plantings of the native Sumoll vine. In 2001, MontRubí created the red wine “Gaintus”, the first entirely Sumoll red wine in the world. The MontRubí "White"wine, made entirely from another native grape variety, Xarello, has also been rated very highly.
