Deep purple with an invitingly concentrated nose of mulberry, violets and cedar. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and bold with ripe flavours of cassis, blueberries, blackberries as well as sage,cocoa and fennel. With liquorice, and vanilla spices and tannins that are persistent but well integrated. Recommend an hour decanting beforehand.

An iconic wine from a classic vintage. It was a stroke of good fortune for us all that winemaker Nico Myburgh noticed the similarities between the terroir of left bank Bordeaux and Stellenbosch. Straight out of the blocks, his first Rubicon vintage in 1980 was received with widespread international acclaim. The accolades that have since followed show that it has only gone from strength to strength. Stellenbosch is now South Africas most famous wine-producing region. Here is a reason why.
