Iconic Australian Cabernet from strong vintage

Coonawarra's famous Terra Rossa's soil in South Australia is renowned for producing great Cabernet and 2019 looks set to be a vintage of note. Thus it is no surprise that Wynns Black Label is impressive with juicy plum, blackberries and licorice cushioned by plushy tannins. This is a well-balanced wine with an abv of 13.8%.

  • Jancis Robinson 17 Points: "a really serious, youthful exponent of Coonawarra Cabernet"
  • Wine Pilot: "One of the best value wines to be released in 2021.’
  • Iconic Australian Cabernet

Food Pairing: Roast beef and lamb.

Cellaring: Drink now with food but it will improve over the next 10 years or more..

STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

The estate was founded in 1891 by John Riddoch, and bought in 1951 by David and Samuel Wynn, who opted to concentrate on the production of Cabernet Sauvignon. By 1981, vineyard holdings had expanded to 440 hectares (1,087 acres), making Wynns the largest estate in the region. The figure is now nearer 850 hectares (2,100 acres). The flagship wine is the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon, but Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon, which was first produced in 1954, has established a reputation for displaying excellent varietal and regional characteristics and is one of the most cellared wines in Australia. Commenting on the 2019 vintage Tony Love of winepilot.com, scoring it 96/100, described it as ‘elegance personified’, while jancisrobinson.com (17/20) said: ‘This is still embryonic but is a really serious, youthful exponent of Coonawarra Cabernet. You should really wait for it to bloom but you could drink it now with food.’
