Highly classy and elegant Grüner Veltliner
Grapefruit, lime, yellow apple over hints of tobacco. Fine, supple acidity that is both enticing and refreshing. The firm texture reveals its origin of the bedrock vineyard - the Urgestein - quite clearly.
- Vintage 2019 was world-best Grüner Veltliner
- No oak ageing
- Mouth-watering acidity and fine fruit texture
Food Pairing: According to the winemaker, this wine would pair wonderfully but not exclusively with pan-fried and grilled freshwater fish dishes and seasonal asparagus
Cellaring: Ideal to drink now when fresh.
"This is initially slightly atypical of albariño on the nose, with prominent honey aromas, melon, peaches and other stone fruit. On the palate, however, it's unmistakably reminiscent of the regional varietal with vibrant, fresh citrus acidity and classic saline minerality, plus a refined textural structure that belies the price. It's a match made in heaven with grilled fish, seafood dishes such as ceviche or mild creamy cheeses." Cathal McBride, The Sunday Business Post, 29/08/21
STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
The Türk winery is located west of Vienna in the idyllic wine village of Stratzing in Kremstal. The roots of the renowned family business go back to the beginning of the 18th century. They own 17ha of quality vineyards, several of which are erste lage or premier cru with about 75% planted with Grüner Veltliner.
Winemaker Franz Türk’s philosophy is to draw on centuries of accumulated family knowledge but also to try something new. His focus is on producing wines with character and finesse, that reflect their terroir, built for the long term, not a sprint or to have flashy fruitiness in youth. The often internationally awarded sweet wines are a special insider tip.
