1 x BODEGAS DE LA MARQUESA VALSERRANO EL RIBAZO, 2016
The wines produced by the fifth generation of the de Simon family from their 65-hectare estate are classic old school traditional Rioja. The wines are all hand-harvested and handmade, just as they were when the winery first went into production in the late 19th century.
With the glass held still, dark-berried fruit nuances appear, such as blueberries and blackberries, and even hints of violets. When the wine is swirled, the reminders of black fruit are heightened and aromas of liquorice appear, along with some lactic tones.
1 x JOAN DANGUERA ALTAROSES, 2019
Joan d’Anguera founded this estate in 1820 in the wine-producing region of Montsant which surrounds Priorat in Catalonia in Spain’s northeast. The estate is now fully biodynamic and producing a range and quality of wines that had led to wide acclaim. Though Priorat’s powerful red wines have allowed it to lord it over its near neighbour, Montsant is steadily building its own reputation with the likes of the Joan d’Anguera estate to the fore.
100% “Granatxa” (Grenache/Garnacha), unfined and unfiltered, and aged for 12-14 months in French oak barriques, this wine is a wonderfully restrained and elegant expression of the Montsant terruño (terroir). With great purity of fruit, it is much lighter than what you might expect from a Montsant “Granatxa”, a true everyday drinking wine.

Cair Selección La Aguilera 2015 is a mature red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit, floral notes of violets, hints of balsamic and a woody taste. On the palate, it is powerful, flavoursome and meaty. A very pleasant expression of fresh fruit and a long finish with notes of spice.

Raul Acha, the winemaker, is attempting to combine the areas traditional strength and a smoothness and elegance adapted to the tastes of the current consumer. Made from 90-year-old vines, this wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak.
Matsu el Picaro has a purplish colour with a great depth, denoting its youth. Intense and powerful mouth, with a very pleasant entry thanks to its sweet character.
