Located in the Montecucco DOC area of Tuscany, this Super Tuscan organic red made from a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Cilliegiolo & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in large format oak cask for 16 months is unequivocally a rich, mouth-filling brooding wine with layers of black fruits and spice with hints of cherry and liquorice. DOMAINE GUERRIN SAINT-VÉRAN LE CLOS VESSATS 2019
The Clos Vessat is a tiny vineyard comprised of just two hectares (4.86 acres) of clay-limestone soil. This is a truly indulgent wine from a superb producer on the rise in Burgundy. This is a very expressive Saint Véran with aromas of citrus and orange blossom wafting from the glass. The wine has plenty of ripe, fresh fruit flavours. A delicious medium to full-bodied mouthfeel with tones of pear and peach and a smooth buttery finish. Parker wrote about this estate in 2018 “Based in the village of Vergisson, Domaine Guerrin et Fils still flies under the radar, but it's an estate on the rise. Harvested by hand, fermented in stainless steel and oak barrels according to the cuvée and matured on the lees for a year, these are beautifully balanced, concentrated wines.”
DOMAINE LEBRUN POUILLY-FUMÉ 2019
Own and run by the Lebrun family since 1861 this Domaine is one of the jewels of this appellation. The estate of 9ha (21.87 acres) is located in the centre of Pouilly-Fumé famed for its flinty-clay soils with a high silex content. The Silex ensures intensity and flintiness in the wines, characteristics that have made the wines of Pouilly-Fumé so famous. This 2019 vintage is particularly highly rated by Laurent Lebrun who describes the wine as having “a unique energy and intensity”. We have to fully agree and to advise that this is simply thrilly, flinty, intense Sauvignon Blanc at its very best.
