STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

Domaine Michel Noëllat is a historic Burgundy producer, founded in the c19th century by Felix Noëllat. Today, it is run by 5th and 6th generation family members. Domaine Michel Noëllat practices ‘lutte raisonée’ (sustainable practices) in their 27 hectares of vineyard in the Côte de Nuits, augmented by parcels in Savigny-lès-Beaune. The average age of the vines is between 60 and 70 years old. Everything here is de-stemmed and oak treatment is very restrained, with most wines matured in one-third each in new, one-year-old and two-year-old oak.

OUR IMPRESSION

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny offers plenty of dark cherry and crushed strawberry fruit on the nose, nicely defined and offering a pastille-like purity. There is certainly good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a mixture of black and red berry fruit tinged with allspice and white pepper, fanning out gently towards the poised finish. This is a deftly-made, unpretentious Chambolle-Musigny that will give several years of drinking pleasure.

Aged 15-18 months in French oak barrel.
