STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
Established in 1985 by David Hohnen when Marlborough was at this stage unknown as a wine producing area. From the very first vintage the wines of this estate were an instant success winning numerous awards. This winery almost singlehandedly put the region on the map, capturing the imagination of the wine world and practically defining what an archetypal Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc should taste like. New Zealand wine has never looked back. Named after Cloudy Bay, a body of water explorer Captain James Cook came across during his voyage to New Zealand in 1770. His discovery coincided with flooding in the region, which washed large amounts of sediment into the sea. Noticing the water’s opaque appearance, Cook christened the area Cloudy Bay. Nature and climate come together in harmony here to create the perfect conditions for Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The resulting wines are pure, crisp and vibrant, transporting your imagination to the Southern Pacific.
