STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
This small family-property is ideally situated in the middle of the Lalande de Pomerol appellation in Néac. This small winegrowing appellation lies north of the town of Libourne and is bordered by the prestigious and much more expensive Pomerol appellation to the south, with just the Barbanne river forming the line of separation, and by the Montagne Saint-Emilion appellation to the east. The wine is vinified with great care by the SIMON family. The estate has 6ha of vines with an average age of 30 years, comprising 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc growing in sandy gravel soil with a subsoil of ferrous oxide.
The grapes are hand harvested at optimum ripeness before sorting and transferred to temperature-controlled fermentation vats. After pressing the wine is aged for 18 months in neutral vats before light filtration and bottling. 2019 was a very good vintage in Bordeaux, quite hot, so wines can be ripe and lush. La Menotte is dominated by Merlot so there is plenty of ripe plum and cherry fruit with a violet note and a touch of mocha with a degree of tannin that will allow it to age well.
