STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

In 1876, David Bishell and his wife Mary, along with their three young children, made the life-changing decision to immigrate to New Zealand in pursuit of a better future. Four years later, in 1880, David acquired 50 hectares of farmland located west of Blenheim and christened it Caythorpe, a nod to his hometown in Lincolnshire, England. Despite the initially unproductive and flax-covered land, David saw its potential and embarked on the arduous task of clearing it. This effort paved the way for the cultivation of food crops and laid the foundation for the remarkable story of Caythorpe Family Estate.

Today, spanning five generations and still completely family-owned, Caythorpe stands as a testament to the best of what Marlborough has to offer. While it remains a fully operational farm, the estate has diversified its activities into horticulture and winemaking, all while maintaining a steadfast commitment to innovative and sustainable production practices. This evolution has resulted in the creation of a distinguished range of super-premium products.
