Approachable and great value Burgundian Chardonnay
A light and fragrant Chardonnay with a creamy, buttery roundness on the mid-palate.
Nicely balanced, the naturally crisp acidity with a flint-like edge compliments the ripe apple and citrus fruit flavours. Hints of nutmeg, white flowers and a slightly toasty note all expressed alongside the typically Burgundian minerality
- Aged 12 Months in Oak, 20% New Oak
16 pts Jancis Robinson, Jan 2020
Food Pairing: This oaked chardonnay will pair beautifully with seafood especially Salmon. Try it either pan-seared, in fish-cakes or creamy vol-au-vents. Chicken Caesar Salad or in a mild curry with buttery sauces
STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
“En Bas de Vauvray” is one of the few plots located in the heart of the Premier Cru hillside, which ensures the quality of this wine. The family business started in 1954 with the grandfather of the current owner Jean- Baptiste Ponsot. He took over the winery in 2000 at the age of 20 and now owns vines in the best soils of the appellation in which two-thirds are Rully 1er Cru. In the vineyard, he is committed to the production of high quality grapes and employs organic practices but hasn't sought out certification. In 2005 Jean-Baptiste built a new winery and has quickly gained a local and international reputation. This is a region on the rise and Jean Baptiste is one of its stars.
