STORY BEHIND THIS WINE

Château d’Angludet, renamed Angludet since 2008, is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine estates, dating back to 1150 AD. The name "Angludet" means angle of the high land. The La Reserve is the second wine of Château Angludet, made using grapes sourced from younger vines on the estate. As a second wine, the La Reserve offers a great-value introduction to the wines of Margaux. In one of the quirks of history, Angludet was left out of the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855 as the estate had been divided in four after the death of the then owner Pierre Legras. In 1891 the estate was reconsolidated into one unit of 130 hectares. However, though the estate prospered for a good many years it fell into difficulty in the late 1950s; by 1960 a mere seven hectares of the Angludet estate was under vine. The following year Peter and Diana Sichel, the parents of the current generation of owners, bought the estate and began its transformation into one of the leading Margaux properties.
