Mezzacorona is a dynamic co-operative founded in 1904 with 1600 small growers cultivating 2800 hectares of vines, mostly white, at the foot of the majestic Italian Alps. Its vineyards with pergola trellising, often on dramatic slopes, characteristic of the region, run from the Adige Valley to the foothills of the towering Dolomites. A fresh, wild breeze from the lakes and glaciers of the surrounding mountains blows over the vineyards, allowing the grapes to mature to ripeness with a perfect balance of sugars and acids creating vivid, focussed fresh wines.
In June 2021 the prestigious wine competition Mundus Vini awarded Mezzacorona ‘Best Producer Italy’ after receiving 20 gold and 13 silver medals.
This delightful white wine is made from grapes growing rather picturesquely trellised on pergolas set sometimes on quite steep slopes. The wine has little in common with the vast lake of neutral, cheap wine sold as Pinot Grigion from the Veneto plain. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the dramatic alpine setting creates a white wine that is as refreshing, and mineral tinged as a mountain stream with aromas of apple, pear and honeysuckle.
