Gold medals galore, this estate typifies all that is great about a small family owned winery that is totally terroir focused and that crafts unique and truly memorable wines. It is a real honour for us to represent the wines of this great estate in Ireland.
Owned and run André and Arielle Vatan took the winery has a collection of 9 buildings that have the appearance of a rural hamlet. This the neighbours lovingly refer to as “Vatanville”. There are four vineyards, all located around the winery. Silex soil-located on the other side of the road, next to the Charme forest is flint soil with no limestone, yielding strong, exotic, perfumed flavours. This soil gives the most fruit flavors for the Sauvignon Blanc, but he also blends about 20% of the fruit from vines planted in limestone for a touch of smokiness.
André and Arielle Vatan’s red, white and rosé wines are all uniquely pleasing. The Sancerre Rouge features in Decanter 2015 magazines list of top ten red Sancerres to try. At the Concours Mondial of Sauvignon 2014, the world champions for Sauvignon, they were awarded gold for Les Charmes 2013 & Cuvée Francois 2012. In summary, sublime terroir focused wines that really set the standard for this great appellation.
